This is my lifetime service family, the Bendetts have been serving the Silverhand family for generations, and in return they receive a very low tax rate.

They are considered Merchant class, however they are very high end merchant, all their children go to private school, boy’s will go to university. They pretty much as high on the merchant ladder as you can get without becoming a noble. Serving the royal family is considered a great honour and this family take that honour very seriously.

The idea behind this family is that boy children start training as a knight At age 6 which means Joseph will leave and head to the barracks next year. Boys have to remain at the barracks until they reach the top of the knight career at which point they get granted their own house with the special tax rate so they can find a wife etc (continuing in the knight career)

While female children become staff in royal houses at the age of 13.  Not lady in waiting as this honour is resaved for noble women, but cooks / lady’s maids / housekeepers and the such. They remain in service until their 30th birthday at which point they are released, with the option to continue to work for the royals in a part time ( i.e. they take the servants career ) giving them time to raise a family.

At the moment the Bendett’s purely serve the royals, I’ve used townies in most of the other noble houses however as soon as the family expands enough the girls children will be posted in other noble houses.

The servitude follows the male line as so much did back then which means if Persia / Tara or Harmony marry outside this special servants class although they will still be permitted to work for the royals their children will not unless of course their husband is also a royal servant. While Joseph’s children will automatically continue the tradition.

This family are very well off; both Nancy and Vincent are at the top of their careers and with such a low tax rate they are doing very well for themselves living better than most nobles.

Once Joseph reaches the top of the Knight career he’ll return home rather than being granted his own house as the first son he’ll inherit his fathers home making him a very good prospect for any young girl including 2-3rd noble daughters. However knowing this when it comes time Vince will be looking hard for a girl with a suitably large dowry.  In addition to this the girls are looking to marry well when the time is right, Vince already has saved a whooping $51,000, which will be divided up for their dowry’s.

I handle dowry’s / moving out slightly different for this family, because all the members go and work for another house before getting married (girls the castle, boy’s the barracks)  I don’t want their personal money getting mixed in with the household funds, so my intention is the move them out as per normal into the family bin when they are going to there “service home” from there move them onto marylou’s 1×1 lot. Where I will spend all their money on household items to keep in their inventory for the duration of their service.

When they are ready to move out move them back to a 1×1 lot .. Use my money order hack to spend back any money they accidentally stole from the castle / barracks ( except for 10,000 which is classed as a gift / earnings )  I can then sell all the household items they have and tadaaa they are ready to start their new life.

Vince is a knowledge sim, while Nancy is yet another family sim, they got married and had Persia straight after Nancy was released from the royal house, however they got very unlucky when trying for the next. After a long wait Nancy suffered two miscarriages but eventually had the twins, followed by harmony.

Her most recent surprise is that she’s pregnant again. At 43 her chance of getting pregnant is only 18% even when she try’s and with 4 children already in the house she wasn’t trying but still managed to get pregnant with an accidental baby despite the fact that she only had a 3.6% chance of it happening. (  20%(merchant) of 18% (age) = 3.6% )

First I’d just tell you that I love this ‘behind the scenes’-blog. I love getting to know how you make your kingdom run around, ’cause it seems like you’ve got everything running pretty smoothely.

Second, I’d just like to ask a question about the taxes.
I noticed that in some of the first posts, it said taxes per day.
Do your sims really pay taxes each day, or how often?

Yup im evil i make them pay each day. so alot of my sims pay out more than they get to keep per day which seems cruel but it doens’t mean there there living conditions improve slowely.

If i didnt do this my sims would move house one a year … and go from peasants to merchant class over night, keeping hold of money is a hard thing for my sims.

For example i think Stephan and Helena Gawen only end up with about $20 leftover at the end of the day… when a stool can cost $500 thats alot of saving. which is why i cring each time the stupid woman gets pregant becuase i know im going to need to buy her another bed and most importantly hunt for a space to put it in their tiny hut.
