Behind the scenes at Grimstead

Disaster stuck Grimstead yesterday when I decided to be too clever for my own good and created a disaster.

I decided I was finally going to sort out my custom eye’s. I genetically sorted my custom skins not to long ago allowing custom skin to be classed by darkness rating so like maxis skins.  Allowing my children to inherited without the default “mother has custom, father has default skin, so ALL children WILL have the same skin as their mother” instead the game now picks a skin from my selection that comes somewhere in-between the mothers and fathers tone.

Anyway … until now only the maxis coloured eye’s where properly sorted and inherited, custom eye’s still claimed dominance and I found the beautiful custom gray eye’s I loved so much and gave to the Baumonts in Sim creation had slowly started taking over the world.

With nothing to determine dominance between all my customs eye’s it was a little bit of a mess as certain colours such as blue where disappearing completely and i couldn’t even infuse some in from townies as the Custom eyes would always win.

So I decided to fix my eye’s in much the same way as I’d done with skins, bringing the colours inline with the maxis ratings for dominance. Blue / brown dominant, followed by light blue / green and finally gray.

However looking at my selection of eye’s I decided I had WAAAAAY too many. A lot of which id never used, because id downloaded them then decided I didn’t like them or more often than not I simply I had others I preferred.

So I used body shop to go though my eye selection and I deleted any I didn’t like, my theory was if I don’t like them I’ve probably never used them …… oh how wrong I was.

Anyway I finished deleting and fixing/sorting the remaining eye’s and logged into the game only to realise id deleted the kings eyes, the queens eyes  , clara’s eyes jeds eyes …. amongst a lot of others … *sob*  Making matters worse the game had given them all default brown eye’s so suddenly 90% of my kingdom had brown eye’s.

Having completely deleted the old files I had no way of retrieving them, so I set about trying to repair the damage as best I could by giving all my sims new eye’s from the eyes I’d decided to keep.  

However its not as simple as replacing the dominant eye code in simPE, as for some reason this doesn’t actually change the colour that shows up in game so I had to change their dominant genes / recessive genes (so new children being born would be saved from maxis default brown) Then I had to perform Sim surgery to make them show up in game… * sigh *

Which leads my the accident I had with poor Lysander Gawen the son of Clara and Gabe .. Using sim surgery I accidentally over wrote his file with a random NPC id built to copy the eye colour from…. Doh… unable to restore the file ive had to resort to copying Gabes file, so Lysander is now going to be quite literally the duplicate of his father.

Anyway back the eyes. After many many hours I’ve managed to fix most of it, however the main problem is tied to the fact that I couldn’t actually remember what colour eye’s some of the Sims had…

For example I knew Alistair had his mothers green eyes, making his recessive eye colour his fathers brown. Kaitlyn had her fathers Brown making her mothers gray her recessive….

However what about Maegan, Duncan and baby Alistair??? Looking at photos I know Maegan had gray (from her mother’s recessive) so did she have Alistairs green or brown as her recessive ??? Argh

…. And what about Abagael …. Where her’s green or brown?? And What would that make her recessive …. What about her kids?? What colour where brans eyes???  …  You see where im going with this … total nightmare!!!!

So please  excuse any random eye colour changes you may see ingame over the next few weeks, as I couldn’t remember what colour some peoples eye’s where ( so I guessed).  I know the green I’ve chosen for the royals is much brighter than the original so be aware things may look alittle odd till we all get used to the change… On the plus side i now know how to change a sims eyes so maybe i can replace some of the townies eyes.
