Vui is a born ingame sim, the sister of Falcon and daughter of Resse she’s appeared as a bit part in the Grimstead story but for the most part her and family are there for numbers.
I can’t possibly keep every character in the story without confusing everyone so its very doubtful she’ll ever appear properly, however its possible some time in the future one of her children might marry one of the character i choose to follow with the story.
She married Gary Hiatt a townie and for the most part the family are doing well, they are only peasants but they do ok for themselves. Vui is at the top of the medical career ( i consider her a midwife so story purposes as that in reality thats as close to medical a woman is like to get in medieval times ) Gary’s not doing bad either and between them they survive quite comfortably, there house is simple but its better than the conditions many of my peasant live in.
I don’t allow Nanny’s for peasant so i have to do some fiddling when it comes to getting both parents to work, there are often days where only one needs to go to work and thats great, however somedays if they are both due in and their current working hours don’t allow me to send both i have to choose which go’s and which stays.
This isn’t as bad as it seems though Vui has built up some holidays from having children so im usually able to keep her home and still get paid, however when she runs out i just make sure they take it in turns so neither loses their job.
The twins Wakeen and Raia grew up into children this round and Vui started the round pregnant, however this doesn’t worry me as much as it did for Helena and Stephan, this family have the room for the extra child as they moved into quite a big house when i moved them from the Darkfire Estate, they had the money to spare after Tariks lenient tax’s granted their taxs have just shot up, a bigger house equals higher taxs even under the best of circumstances and the Beaumonts taxs are higher to start with however im confident they will manage.
Anyway with Vui’s pregnancy this is a good time to refer back to my death calculator. Pregnancy was a very hazardous time for women in the medieval period, and as such ive calculated this into the death calc, there is a section a simple yes of no asking if the woman is pregnant, if yes then it increases the chance of her dying and works out if the baby survives.
However what i do is add +1 sickness each and every time a woman gets pregnant, so the minus is increased even further, the idea is that each pregnancy takes a little bit out of the woman and it increases her chances of dying.. because in reality childbirth was the single biggest killer of young woman in medieval times and i want this to be true in my game too.
However thus far I’ve only had one woman actually die in childbirth and that was Vui’s mother and this round Vui survives giving birth to her 5th child, a baby girl called Layla
