The Clergy
Ok so far I’ve ran both the Monastery and church as separate households, they are run in pretty much the same way as all the rest of my households.
However they bring in money using my custom “clergy careers” where possible, and don’t need to pay tax’s. However with the baby boom going on at the “whorehouse” and the fact that I wanted Father Mathew to set up a second church on the Beaumont estate I’ve realised things need to change.
My first change is by way of getting the church a solid income, sure they don’t pay tax’s however they also don’t have the money to set up a “new church” as the church I have “made” for them is so far beyond what they can currently afford it’s not funny.
Churchs in medieval times relied on a tithe however my poor churches as yet haven’t set this up. So step one … start tithing the people. I could set up another “payment” going out from every lot but this would be a lot of work, so instead what I have decided Is the lord of the land and the king will both pay a tithe, they get the money from the people after all. So all estates who have a “Church” will pay $1000 per week to the church, and the King will pay an additional $1000 per week to each religious building.
Unfortunatly Valdemar is not in a financial position to send money to Father Mathew to set up a new church on his land, like i’d planned, and the current church does not have enough money to buy the church lot on the baeumont estate, so Brother Mathew is gonig to have to pospone his move for a while, meaning poor old Neve Gardener who i was hoping to marry to him this round is going to have to wait abit longer for a husband.
Secondly the Monastery is getting hammered with babes, granted hopefully with the introduction of birth control this will lessen im suddenly very aware of the need for a full time orphanage, to take in these baby’s so I can let the monastery get back to it’s primary purpose of sheltering forlorn women and unwanted second daughters.
I’ve spent some time today building this orphanage; my plan is to have it house two townies with the full time job of taking care of all the baby’s. The initial setup will be funded by the king (Prince Thomas as it stands) and so I’m using money order to send $100,000 to the monastery, and he will continue to pay a measly $100 per orphan per day to run it ie pay the bills/food. Orphans will stay in the orphanage until they are old enough to work (age 6) and I can find a family for them to go and work for or until they are teens and old enough to be kicked out into the world to fend for themselves.
Having found Acker and Pagan families to work for, and having packaged them off this round however that still leaves 6 toddlers and 1 baby, so who ever runs it will certainly have their work cut out for them, townies are chosen money is sent and we open the doors to Grimsteads first and undoubtedly not the last, orphanage.
